The Other Voice: Women’s musical creativity in Alma Mahler’s Vienna
I’ve been commissioned by Equinox Publishing to write a book on women musicians in Vienna in the early 20th-century, which I will be submitting at the end of 2026. The book looks at a variety of women musicians in Vienna, including composers like Johanna Müller-Hermann, performers like Marie Gutheil-Schoder (who premièred Schoenberg’s Erwartung) and writers like the musicologist and critic Elsa Bienenfeld and investigates the links between them, and with their better-known male contemporaries.
